It stands to reason that any TV show boasting performances from bands that have sold more than 15 million records over the past year between them would be a huge hit. Which is why, thanks to Eminem, Lady Antebellum, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, Sunday night's 53rd annual Grammy Awards posted the best numbers for the program in a decade.

The Hollywood Reporter reported Monday (February 14) that, according to preliminary numbers from Nielsen, the show was watched by 26.5 million viewers, a 3 percent improvement over last year's Grammy numbers (25.8 million) and the best figure for the show since 2001.

The combination of a relentlessly hyped Gaga interview that aired on '60 Minutes' just before the show, combined with a smorgasbord of performing stars that ranged from legends such as Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger to Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, a rare appearance by hip-hop icon Dr. Dre and surprise Album of the Year winners Arcade Fire helped make the show a must-see event.

And though viewers were treated to the spectacle of Gaga finally busting out of her space egg during the show, Green frolicking with outer-space Henson Puppets and Gwyneth Paltrow, and Bieber dancing amid a stage full of break-dancing ninjas, when the dust settled, the dark-horse win by Arcade Fire provided the show with a water-cooler moment that kept viewers interested until the entire three-and-a-half-hour spectacle wrapped up.

Lady Gaga Says Madonna Approves Of 'Born This Way': "

Madonna's people e-mailed their 'love and complete support,' Gaga tells Jay Leno.

After a number of fans and critics pointed out the similarities between Lady Gaga's smash new single 'Born This Way' and a few of Madonna's songs (including 'Express Yourself' and 'Vogue'), Gaga went on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' on Monday to say that she's gotten the Material Girl's stamp of approval.

Twenty-four hours after Gaga wowed the Grammy audience with her space-egg entrance, Leno asked the singer how she felt about the many comparisons to Madonna's work. Mother Monster assured him that there is no beef between her and Madonna over the song.

'There is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me,' said Gaga, who furthered the controversy during her Grammy performance by rocking a long blond ponytail that also recalled a classic Madonna look. 'I am the hugest fan personally and professionally.'

In fact, Gaga said she recently got a note from Madonna, who said she liked the song and had no problem with the homage. 'Well, the good news is that I got an e-mail from her people and her, sending me their love and complete support on behalf of the single, and if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be,' she said.

Gaga, who picked up three Grammy awards on Sunday night, appeared on Leno's show wearing a gauzy black dress over a visible black bra and panties and a black head scarf, accessorized with a black vinyl Batman-like mask, as well as what appears to be her new monster-movie inspired look, complete with glued-on facial ridges. She displayed her three Grammys on Leno's desk and, as a Valentine's Day treat, crammed them with M&M's, the talk-show host's favorite candy.

"I think today in music, the freedom in the song, the sort of R&B, early-'90s vibe that it has, it's so full of love and spirit, and I think it's the spirit that people are reacting to the most," said Gaga of her already hit single. "I just want everyone to rejoice and celebrate and be unafraid to be happy with music. It doesn't always have to be so dark. It doesn't always have to be so sexy. Sometimes it's wonderful just to celebrate life and go to church with it."

Lady Gaga could not remember much about her celebration on Sunday night after winning three Grammy Awards, but during a Monday appearance on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,' she did manage to recall that she had yet another big announcement to make.

'Oh, this is a very exciting new announcement,' she said during the appearance, in which she revealed that she and Madonna have no beef over Gaga's smash single 'Born This Way,' which some critics and fans have said resembles some of Madonna's 1990s work. 'I am going to be taping a special for HBO of the Monster Ball.'
HBO confirmed on Tuesday (February 15) that the singer's first solo HBO concert special will air on May 7. The program will be taped during Gaga's February 21-22 shows at Madison Square Garden and will be titled 'Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden.'

'Lady Gaga is the single most exciting music talent on the scene today,' said HBO president Sue Naegle in a statement announcing the deal. 'We're especially thrilled that she'll be creating unique new elements for the special that will make the show an even more memorable experience for our viewers.'

The HBO show will begin airing a few weeks before the release of Gaga's highly anticipated Born This Way album, which hits stores on May 23. It will be directed by Laurieann Gibson, who has choreographed most of Lady Gaga's videos, including 'Poker Face,' 'Paparazzi,' 'Telephone,' 'Alejandro' and 'Bad Romance.'

Gaga also dropped the news that the 'Born This Way' video will be out soon and that it is a collaboration between her own Haus of Gaga and fashion photographer Nick Knight.

The singer admitted that she didn't remember much about Sunday night's post-Grammy party, but she remembers that 'it was fun. I do remember being called 'drunky Gaga.' ' Renowned for her elaborate entrances, Gaga said that Hussein Chalayan, the Turkish designer behind the egg-shaped device in which she was carried into the Grammys, wanted to make sure everyone knew it should be referred to as a 'vessel.' Joking (we think), Gaga told Leno she spent three days inside the temperature-controlled device.

Gaga also explained that the 'vessel' was intended to signify rebirth, specifically the birth of a new race 'with no prejudice ... against anyone.'

Lady Gaga called in to Ryan Seacrest's radio show on Tuesday morning (February 15) and opened up about the 'Born This Way' 'roller coaster' she finds herself on these days. She also talked about that now-famous egg-like 'vessel' in which she arrived to the Grammys on Sunday.

'Only I would pull up to an awards show in a giant industrial-sized truck,' she explained about the vehicle that brought her and her unusual container to the big event. 'I was in [the vessel] for about 72 hours and it was a very creative experience and it was time for me to prepare and really think about the meaning of the song. I really wanted to be born onstage.'

Gaga finally emerged from her egg thingy when she took the stage at the Grammys to perform her new single live for the first time. "It was such a magical moment. I can't even say enough about the joy that I felt singing 'Born This Way' on that stage," she gushed. "We were just so emotional and so excited and I put so much hard work into creating the performance, designing it. I really have spent a tremendous amount of time dancing and working on becoming a better dancer ... It's important to me, if I want to someday be remembered as a great, great artist, I think I have to do what all the greats did — I've got to sing and dance live at the same time."

As for her unusual Whitney Houston shout-out during the ceremony, Gaga explains that it was a thank-you a long time in the making. 'I can't tell you how much I listened to her growing up,' she explained. 'She was my vocal idol for so many years. I thought of her voice when I wrote ['Born This Way'], because she's just such an incredible singer. I sort of planned to thank her a long time ago, at some point. I said, 'If I ever win a Grammy I'm gonna thank Whitney' ... so I did.'

During the chat with Seacrest, Gaga also gave more details about her album, Born This Way, which comes out May 23. 'The next single is called 'Judas,' ' she confirmed (Vogue originally reported the news about this track, which was produced by RedOne). 'And that will be out a couple weeks before the album.'

As for the LP as a whole, the singer said, 'It's eclectic. I wouldn't tell everyone to expect lots of the same kind of songs like 'Born This Way.' I explore lots of different genres in tandem with dance music and electronic music and industrial music. I have expanded even further in that area, and I'm so very proud of it.'

Later on the conversation, Gaga reiterated, 'The great news is 'Born This Way' is just the beginning of this album. It's certainly not even the biggest hit on the album. You have to hear the rest of the record. I don't want to boast about it, because I am humble about what I do, but it's a great album and I can't wait to share each and every song with my fans.'

Grammys Give Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber Immediate iTunes Bump: "

Cee Lo, Esperanza Spalding, Lady Antebellum and more also see post-show sales increases.

It didn't take long for the big winners at Sunday night's Grammy Awards to get an iTunes bump. Less than 24 hours after the show, the iTunes singles and albums charts were flooded with songs that were either performed on the show or which won awards during the program.

At press time on Tuesday morning (February 15), the iTunes singles tally was topped, not surprisingly, by Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way,' which got its televised debut during the show, followed by Dr. Dre's 'I Need a Doctor,' which Eminem and Dre (making his first televised performance in nearly a decade) also performed on the show.

Justin Bieber's 'Never Say Never' was at #3, followed by Cee Lo Green's 'F--- You,' which was one of the most colorful and bizarre live spots in the three-and-a-half-hour show thanks to his outer-space Henson Puppet band and a cameo from a sultry Gwyneth Paltrow.

Mumford & Sons also got some iTunes love after playing on the show with folk legend Bob Dylan, which helped their song "The Cave" hit #5, followed by the night's big Grammy victors, Lady Antebellum, and their Song and Record of the Year winner, 'Need You Now.'

Although she didn't perform 'Firework' on the Grammys, Katy Perry's anthem hung in at #7, ahead of Rihanna, who had two shots onstage at the Grammys. Her "S&M," whose video is the subject of legal action, came in at #8, with Bruno Mars' 'Grenade' and non-Grammy performer Avril Lavigne's 'What the Hell' rounding out the top 10.

Just outside the top 10, there were plenty more Grammy bumps to be found: Cee Lo's censored "Forget You" (#11), Mumford & Sons' "Little Lion Man" (#12), Muse's "Uprising" (#20), Rihanna and Drake's "What's My Name?" (#21), Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" (#24) and Florence and the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" (#29).

The iTunes album chart told a similar story, with Mumford's Sigh No More holding on to the #1 slot, followed by Bieber's Never Say Never remixes disc, Album of the Year winner the Arcade Fire's The Suburbs was back in play at #3, proceeded by Grammy performers the Avett Brothers' I and Love and You at #4, with Best New Artist Esperanza Spalding's Chamber Music Society climbing to #6.

Other Grammy album action included: Lady Antebellum's Need You Now (#7), Bieber's My World 2.0 (#8), Eminem's Recovery (#9), Rihanna's Loud (#10), Florence and the Machine's Lungs (#11), Bieber's My Worlds Acoustic (#12), the 2011 Grammy Nominees compilation (#14), as well as albums by the Black Keys (#17), Muse (#19), Bruno Mars (#21) and Spalding's 2009 Esperanza release (#28).

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Rockets Up Billboard Charts

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Rockets Up Billboard Charts: "

Instant-smash single is poised to debut at #1 on Hot 100.
By Gil Kaufman

Who didn't see this one coming? Thanks to the pushed-up release date on Friday and the most talked-about entrance at Sunday night's Grammys — not to mention what must have amounted to endless spins at clubs over the weekend — Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" is making some chart history.

Billboard reported that after just three days of availability, the tune shot to a record-setting debut on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart at #14 and is poised to possibly debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week thanks to brisk digital sales.

The first single from the album of the same name due on May 23 got 4,602 plays, which gives it the highest detections total by a debuting song in the chart's 18-year history, representing an audience of 39.3 million. Citing unnamed sources, the magazine also reported that 'Born' sold more than 450,000 downloads since its release on Friday morning, which could help the song debut at #1 on the Hot 100 and make it only the 19th song ever to do so on that chart.

Gaga could also potentially wrest a record for the biggest debut track for a woman from Britney Spears if download sales continue to climb. Spears' 'Hold it Against Me' rocked the chart a month ago with 411,000 in sales, but if Gaga's numbers hold she could land the fourth-largest digital track debut of all time behind Flo Rida's 'Right Round,' (636,000) the Black Eyed Peas' 'Boom Boom Pow' (465,000) and Flo Rida's 'Low' (460,000).

The star stopped by 'Jay Leno' the day after the Grammys, and in addition to explaining that she and Madonna have no beef over complaints by some that 'Born This Way' bears too much of a resemblance to some earlier Material Girl hits, Gaga also announced her upcoming May HBO special and explained the inspiration behind her new album.

She also revealed that she changed up the entire look of her Grammy performance two days before it aired because she wasn't happy with it. 'I don't want the band and dancers to feel like a band and dancers,' Gaga said, explaining why her crew was dressed in flesh-tone vinyl outfits that matched her own.

When Leno made a crack about her trio of Grammy outfits, which included a molded leather bodice created by fashion icon Thierry Mugler, Gaga said the latter had a cosmic inspiration. 'It was inspired by humanoids, alien sex humanoid hybrid women,' she said matter of factly, rocking some of the low budget sci-fi alien face-ridged makeup she debuted at the Grammys, on Leno's show.

The talk show host pointed to her third getup, which she said featured a giant black 'church' hat, and asked if maybe it didn't block the view of the star behind her at the show, actor Will Smith. Gaga promised it didn't and added that she is in love with his daughter's hit single. 'I love Willow,' gushed Gaga, who took a series of photos with the pre-teen Smith family singer on her lap at the show. 'I told her that she inspired me to whip my hair back and forth!'

Though she claimed to have written 'Born This Way' in a matter of minutes, Gaga said she spent more than a year perfecting it and tweaking the music, promising that it is just one of the many sounds you'll hear on the album. 'The record is kind of eclectic in a way,' she said. 'The rest of the songs on the album are quite different from 'Born This Way.' '

As for the album's theme, Gaga said it's about 'being able to know that when you were born, you weren't just born in that moment, you have your entire life to realize the person that you're potentially going to become and whoever you choose to be was part of your destiny.' Her hope, she said, was to encourage people who are feeling bullied or disenfranchised at the moment to realize that it's 'never too late to harness your inner superstar.'

Following Lady Gaga's performance of 'Born This Way' at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, fans are wondering what they will see in the Nick Knight-directed music video for the feel-good disco track.

'I can't tell you, but I will tell you it is a life-changing experience,' Gaga's choreographer Laurieanne Gibson said on MTV's 'The Seven.' 'You can expect the highest level of execution in vocal music art and dance ... but you will be shocked.'

Gibson didn't say whether the video would be an extension of Gaga's performance of Sunday night, but she did go into further detail about what she and Gaga and the entire Haus of Gaga had in mind when conceiving the idea of her hatching from an egg on the Grammy stage.

'Well, actually it's a vessel. When Gaga played me the record, it took me quite some time to feel the direction and the inspiration, and when she played it for me two weeks later, I was like, 'I think I got it.' I said, 'We have to birth a new race, a race that cannot hate.' And, of course, as genius as she is, she runs with it.'

Gaga revealed that she spent 72 hours inside the vessel, and Gibson explained that precautions were taken to make sure she'd be safe in there. 'We made sure the Lady was not suffocating with an oxygen tank in there while incubating, checking her new DNA, which was producing this new race,' she explained. 'This race does not give up and does not give in.

'When you try to break this performance down, it minimizes the message,' she added. 'It's about the vocal performance while dancing the amazing choreography. It feels like a standalone dance piece, a standalone theatrical moment. The organ that was our church moment, our freeing moment, a call to arms.'

Lady Gaga Dresses Like A Condom To Promote AIDS Awareness

Lady Gaga Dresses Like A Condom To Promote AIDS Awareness: "

'Born This Way' singer promotes safe sex and MAC lipstick on 'Good Morning America.'
By Gil Kaufman

Lady Gaga on 'Good Morning America' on Thursday

Photo: ABC

You might have done a double take on Thursday morning (February 17) if you were having your morning coffee while watching 'Good Morning America.' Yes, that was Lady Gaga up bright and early, and yes, she did say she was wearing a 'latex-condom-inspired outfit' as part of her bid to promote AIDS awareness.

Four days after her instantly legendary entrance at the Grammy Awards in an egg-shaped vessel, the singer donned a flesh-colored latex sheath dress with matching shoes and a sculptural off-white hat to talk with 'GMA' host Robin Roberts.

'MAC has been fighting for identity and for passion and love and protection for so long,' said Gaga of the MAC brand of cosmetics, which she said raised $34 million last year through its Viva Glam lipstick brand for HIV/AIDS-related causes, some of it courtesy of an ad campaign starring Gaga and singer Cyndi Lauper. The goal this year, said Gaga, again sporting the alien-inspired facial ridges that seem to be part of her latest persona, was to raise $50 million.

She then gave Roberts a sample of the taupe lipstick and lip 'glass' that she designed for MAC, which gives 100 percent of Viva Glam proceeds to AIDS/HIV prevention.

"I want to get people started at home at a younger age with their children talking about HIV, talking about AIDS, talking about safe sex," she explained. "My mother talked to me about sex at a young age, and she always taught me to be self-aware — that's in my new song, 'Born This Way.' I say 'My momma told me when I was young ...' My first experience with my mother that I remember mostly was when she would put her lipstick on in the morning and she would talk to me about life."

The bottom line, self-described activist and social-justice fighter Gaga said, was to speak to the people in your life about safe sex in order to help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Gaga also talked about her 'genuine shock' at hearing her name called at the Grammys on Sunday night when she won the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance award for 'Bad Romance.'

'I so genuinely did not think I was going to win,' she said. 'I really didn't, and I was so shocked and so honored and so humbled. And it was a very joyous day to sing 'Born This Way' for the first time.'

Staying on message, Gaga then tied in the theme of the song with her MAC line, saying it is shame and stigma around the difficulty of talking to children about sex and AIDS that makes people not protect themselves.

' 'Born This Way' is about self-love, and MAC AIDS Fund is about self-love. ... It is so much bigger than me,' she said. 'It's not about me at all. The song, when I wrote it, I just knew it was destined to reach so many people all over the world. The most humbling thing for me this past weekend is watching the fans harness onto the record and ... really enjoying the music and feeing uplifted and a sense of positivity.'

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Is Fastest-Selling Single In iTunes History: "

By Gil Kaufman

Lady Gaga is starting to make this look too easy. Every time Mother Monster releases a new single or video, she smashes some kind of previous record.

Apple's iTunes announced on Friday (February 18) that Gaga's 'Born This Way' is now officially the fastest-selling single in the history of the iTunes store. And while Apple has historically declined to give out any sales figures for iTunes, it broke with protocol in a statement announcing the record, saying that 'Born This Way' has hit #1 in all 23 countries with iTunes stories and sold more than 1 million tracks in just five days.

The feat tops a stellar week for Gaga, which included the single shooting straight to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart while becoming the 1,000th song to lead the list in its 52 year history.

'It is a tremendous honor,' Gaga told the magazine about reaching the chart milestone. 'To be the 1000th no. 1 on Billboard ... I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honor of my career. ... I am so humbled and so honored and overwhelmed by the reception to 'Born This Way.' [It] has been so life-changing for me as an artist, and between Billboard and the international number ones and the radio numbers. ... I couldn't be more blessed to have the fans that I have.'

The first single from Gaga's upcoming album of the same name, due out on May 23, has also opened in a major way at radio, rushing onto the Billboard Radio Songs airplay chart at #6 with a first week audience of more than 78 million, giving Gaga the highest opening for a song since the chart began incorporating all radio formats in 1998.

Joe Vogel: Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" Falls Short of Predecessors, Hype

Joe Vogel: Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" Falls Short of Predecessors, Hype: "

There is no question Lady Gaga's new single, 'Born This Way,' will be a massive hit. Its catchy, propulsive, four-on-the-floor electro-pop sound is tailor-made for today's radio.

Yet there is also no question, from an artistic standpoint, it does little to distinguish itself from the crowd (Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Glee). Sonically and lyrically, it is following formulas, not re-inventing them or challenging them. The similarities to past hits (Madonna's 'Express Yourself,' TLC's 'Waterfalls') have been well-noted, but the real disappointment is its content. With the Fame/Fame Monster dichotomy, Gaga was tapping into a compelling metaphor about the complexities of identity (and celebrity). It had been done before, of course (most prominently in pop by Michael Jackson), but she was presenting her project in some interesting new ways, particularly in her videos and performances.

The lyrics to 'Born This Way,' in contrast, are simply a collection of simplistic, one-dimensional platitudes about self-acceptance and empowerment. Rather than challenge her listeners with a fresh slant or expression of liberation, she offers easy self-love. As the Los Angeles Times' Ann Powers notes,

''Born This Way' never hints that outsiders should remake the world in their image, instead invoking God and mommy to suggest that society's frameworks need not change, only open their doors a little wider... For all her flash and grotesquery, she means to be a steadying force, not a revolutionary.'
Obviously, there is a place for such 'self-empowerment' songs. They have been populating the pop charts for years. But someone with Gaga's ambition (she has a quote from the German poet, Rilke, on her arm) and talent is capable of far more.

Indeed, she might have learned from two of her artistic heroes, John Lennon and Michael Jackson. Both artists were masters at presenting interesting contrasts, nuances and tensions, even in their popular anthems.

In Lennon's classic, 'Instant Karma!,' listeners are challenged even as they are inspired. The song undercuts traditional religious sentiments, pushing us to live, not for some future heaven or reward, but in the present. 'Why in the world are we here,' he sings. 'Surely not to live in pain and fear.' 'Instant Karma' reminds that we are only liberated by transforming ourselves (and the world around us), not simply by celebrating ourselves.

For Gaga, God doesn't make mistakes and we are all born 'superstars.' For Lennon, a superstar isn't one who simply has good self-esteem. Nor is it someone who aspires to the narcissism and self-congratulation of celebrity ('Who in the hell do you think you are,' he sings ironically, 'A superstar/ Well, right you are.') Fame, for Lennon, is an illusion, as is the concept of a benign God who makes fully-formed, benign children. For Lennon, we aren't born with everything predetermined -- 'It's up to you, yeah you!'

In 'Black or White,' Michael Jackson similarly offers more than a simple message of 'colorblindness' and racial harmony. Both the song and its accompanying music video brilliantly juxtapose idealism with indignation at the status quo. People often forget that Jackson follows the famous chorus ('It don't matter if you're black or white') with the knowing follow-up: 'Don't tell me you agree with me/ When I saw you kickin' dirt in my eye.' Similarly, in the controversial short film, Jackson follows images of global integration with a fearless coda, in which he embodies the pent-up rage, aggression and pain of discrimination in the form of a black panther.

With his lyrics and use of visual contrasts he also suggests that race is not simply 'black or white.' We are not simply born one way; nor can we be easily placed in monolithic categories (black, gay, Muslim, etc.). In 'Black or White' Jackson clearly identifies as black (note how he blasts the archetypal white American father to Africa to begin his re-education, and later transforms into a black panther). Yet he also makes clear he won't be reduced to a static, one-word box ('I'm not gonna spend my life being a color'). Identity is more than one label and more than skin deep. It is about shared spaces and histories, about experiences and opportunities as much as DNA. The message, then, is not simply to celebrate the ideal of diversity and racial tolerance, but to explore the complexities of how individuals become who they are and the still-pervasive social and emotional impact of discrimination. Like Lennon, then, Jackson doesn't just make us feel good about ourselves; he challenges us to see the world as it is, and as it could be (and as we are, and could be).

The best art has never been mere propaganda or pandering. It is about expressing real emotions, tensions, challenges, and paradoxes.

In her short career, Lady Gaga has established herself as one of the most unique and influential pop artists of a generation. She seemed to be laying the groundwork for a fascinating career with her early work. Yet for all her ambition ('I don't want the five dollars in your pocket, I want your soul') -- and hype from certain colleagues -- 'Born This Way' isn't good art. Hopefully, the rest of the album offers more.

Man in the Music: The Creative Life and Work of Michael Jackson (Sterling 2011).

PHOTOS: Gaga Wears Facial Horns, Condom-Inspired Outfit On 'GMA': "

Lady Gaga hit 'Good Morning America' on Thursday dressed as a rubber. No, really. She told a visibly-amused (or maybe we're projecting) Robin Roberts, 'Today was a latex condom inspired outfit because we had to talk about safe sex. I really wanted to head to toe to be representative of what we women and people all over the world need to be concerned about which is the leading cause of death in women all around the world which is HIV.' Definitely an important message.

To this point, perhaps her biggest role has been in the nine minute short film/music video for her song, 'Telephone.'

Beyond being on the big screen herself, she's also given thought to who would play HER in a film. Her choices?

'I've always been a big fan of Rosario Dawson,' she said. 'Oh, you know what, I would have Marisa Tomei play me. I am such a Marisa Tomei fan. All my friends call me Marisa when I get angry. Because my New York accent just flies out of my body and I start smacking my gum.'

She also talked about how she keeps in shape -- and gave a very interesting response: 'I'm on the drunk diet,' she said.

Huh?

'I live my life as I want to, and creatively. I like to drink whiskey and stuff while I am working. But the deal is I've got to work out every day and I work out hung over if I am hung over. And it's about the cross-training and keeping yourself inspired. I have to say, I do a ton of yoga...'

She mentioned drunkdiet.com -- which is the website of her bartender/author boyfriend, Luc Carl. Very sly, Gaga.

Gaga recently released her smash hit new song, 'Born This Way,' which you can listen to HERE.

Lady Gagas orgasmic stage feeling celebrities

Lady Gaga says being on stage is “like having sex” with her fans.

The ‘Born This Way’ singer feels a huge connection with her followers – who she calls ‘Little Monsters’ – and that connection is intensified to orgasmic levels when she is performing.

She said: “Sometimes, being on stage is like having sex with my fans. They’re the only people on the planet who, in an instant, can make me just lose it.”

The 24-year-old star – real name Stefani Germanotta – also says she can relate to her fans because she sees herself in them.

She revealed in an interview with Vogue magazine: “I see myself in them. I was this really bad, rebellious misfit of a person – I still am – sneaking out, going to clubs, drugs, alcohol, older men, younger men. You imagine it, I did it. I was just a bad kid. And I look at them, and every show there’s a little more eyeliner, a little more freedom, and a little more ‘I don’t give a f**k about the bullies at my school.’ “

Lady Gaga says people have morbid fascination with her celebrities

Lady Gaga believes everyone can’t wait to see what she looks like when she’s dead.

The ‘Born This Way’ singer says people are hoping for her to fail and are anxious to see how she will come to her demise.

Gaga – who pretended to die a bloody death after singing her hit song ‘Paparazzi’ at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards – said: “That’s what everyone wants to know, right? What is she going to look like when she dies … when she’s overdosed on whatever they think I’m overdosing on? Everybody wants to see the decay of the superstar.

“Of course they do. They want to see me fail. They want to see me fall on stage. They want to see me vomiting out of a night club … Isn’t that the age we live in? That we want to see people who have it all lose it all?”

However, the 24-year-old hitmaker says she has no intention of going anywhere soon and believes she has mastered the art of fame.

In an interview with Anderson Cooper for ’60 Minutes’, she said: “One of my greatest artworks is the art of fame. I am a master of the art of fame.”

Lady Gaga Arrives at the GRAMMYs in an Egg carried by four men

Lady Gaga Arrives at the GRAMMYs in an Egg carried by four men: "

AN EGG!!! Let’s start with where should this article be categorized.. Definitely under the #WTF tag. If we had one, matter of fact we’ll make one right now. There you go, did it.

This is a major facepalm, a double one indeed. We are gathered here waiting to see what Lady Gaga has got prepared for us outfit-wise. What it’s going to look like for the 53rd GRAMMY Awards.

As you can see in the photos, Gaga hasn’t hatched from the egg yet. Lady Gaga arrived at the GRAMMYs in a plastic egg carried by four men. Assuming it’s a PR for ‘Born This Way.’ Well, was she born this way? No, stop it Gaga.

Whether you’re still confused, we are here to comfort you. We are confused too. Look closer and see-through the egg shell. It’s Lady Gaga, literally inside of it.

Lady Gaga smokes for inspiration

Lady Gaga smokes for inspiration: "

Lady Gaga smokes for inspiration celebrities

Lady Gaga smokes marijuana when she is writing new songs.

The eccentric pop star doesn’t see the point in “sugar coating” her lifestyle or behavior and pretend she doesn’t use drugs because then she wouldn’t be true to herself.

In an interview with Anderson Cooper for ’60 Minutes’, she said: “I still smoke a lot of pot when I write music. So I’m not gonna, like, sugar coat it for ’60 Minutes’ that I’m some, like, sober human being, ’cause I’m not.”

Despite admitting her own cannabis use, the 24-year-old singer – who took home three prizes at the Grammy Awards last night (13.02.11) and arrived at the ceremony in a giant egg which she later ‘hatched’ out of live on stage – doesn’t want her younger fans to experiment with illegal substances just because she has.

In the TV interview, she added: “I don’t want to encourage kids to do drugs. But when you asked me about the sociology of fame and what artists do wrong – what artists do wrong is they lie. And I don’t lie. I’m not a liar. I built good will with my fans. They know who I am. And I’m just like them in so many ways.”

Gaga – real name Stefani Germanotta – has been open about her dug use in the past, and last year admitted she started taking a lot of cocaine after dropping out of a music course at New York University in 2005.

But the ‘Born This Way’ singer insisted the drug had a positive effect on her music even if it had a negative effect on her lifestyle.

She previously revealed: “[Using drugs] I really figured out the art I wanted to make and was inspired. Some people find inspiration in dark places. I guess I’m one of them.

“What always made me different is that if I was doing drugs I was also making music. I wasn’t just doing drugs.”

Lady Gaga was ‘drunky Gaga’ after Grammys

Lady Gaga was ‘drunky Gaga’ after Grammys: "

Lady Gaga was drunky Gaga after Grammys celebrities

Lady Gaga can’t remember her post-Grammys party because she was “drunky Gaga”.

The singer scooped three accolades at the ceremony on Sunday night (13.02.11) and confessed she toasted her victories with several alcoholic drinks.

When quizzed on how she celebrated her success on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno‘, she said: “I don’t remember very much, I know it was fun, I do remember being called drunky Gaga at some point.”

The eccentric pop superstar also revealed the ‘egg’she was brought to the ceremony in and ‘hatched’out of on stage was actually a vessel.

She explained: “Well Hussein Chalayan who designed it said, ‘Make sure you tell everyone it’s a vessel.’ I said. ‘OK I will.’ I was in there for three days, it was temperature controlled.”

The 24-year-old artist also sent her team into a panic just two days before her performance of ‘Born This Way’at the Grammys because she decided to change everyone’s stage outfits.

She said: “I designed all the clothes for myself and for the dancers and two days before the performance I changed everything because I didn’t like the clothing. I felt so bad because the House of Gaga was up all night and red eyed and I was like, ‘I hate it. We have to change everything.’ And they were like, ‘OK.’

“The problem was they looked like dancers in the outfits we had and I’m so close with everyone that’s in the House of Gaga, like Laurieann Gibson my choreographer, all the creatives and we’re all so close that I don’t want the band and the dancers to feel like the band and the dancers behind me because really the performance of ‘Born This Way’ is about all of them it’s about togetherness.”

Is Lady Gaga Still Using Drugs?

Is Lady Gaga Still Using Drugs?: "

Lady Gaga came in an egg and left a three-time winner at Sunday night’s 2011 Grammy Awards — and in an interview with 60 Minutes’ Anderson Cooper that aired earlier in the evening, the pop tart was very candid about her continued drug use.

“I still smoke a lot of pot when I write music. So, I’m not gonna, like, sugar coat it for ‘60 Minutes’ that I’m some, like, sober human being, ‘cause I’m not. However, “I don’t want to encourage kids to do drugs,” the quirky pop tart told the silver-haired Cooper.

Australian tabloid New Weekly, on the other hand, reports Lady Gaga has a dubious source for all her artistic inspiration. The former coke addict is reportedly back on the drug in a big way and worrying friends and family with her habit.

“The idea for her meat costume was the result of a drug-fuelled binge that went wrong. She thinks doing drugs helps her as an artist, but it’s gone too far. She needs help now!” says the tabloid snitch.

Gaga’s people say the story is “ridiculous.”

Lady Gaga Responds To Comparisons Between “Born This Way” & Madonna “Express Yourself”

Lady Gaga Responds To Comparisons Between “Born This Way” & Madonna “Express Yourself”: "

Despite basically cut-and-pasting a classic Madonna song when she wrote her latest single, Lady Gaga decided to thank a pop legend of a more cracked-out kind at Sunday night’s 2011 Grammy Awards. Now the pop diva of the hour is responding to allegations that “Born This Way” is just a modern-day retelling of Madge’s 1989 anthem “Express Yourself.”

The two songs have been seeped in plagiarism allegations since “Born This Way” went viral on Friday, but during an interview with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show Monday, Gaga insisted that The Material Girl has no issue with her song – therefore, neither should anybody else.

“There is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me. I am the hugest fan personally and professionally,” Gaga told Jay. “Well, the good news is that I got an email from her people and her, sending me their love and complete support on behalf of the single and if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be.”

So, what do you think? Is “Born This Way” a rip off or an homage?

Taking the stage to accept her trophy for Best Pop Vocal Album, Gaga even looked like a pointy alien clone of Madonna in the ’80s. But nope, she owed her success to another controversial music icon: Whitney Houston.

“I need to say thankyou tonight to Whitney Houston,” she wobbled during her teary speech. “I wanted to thank Whitney, because when I wrote ‘Born this Way,’ I imagined she was singing it – because I wasn’t secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar. So, Whitney, I imagined you were singing ‘Born This Way’ when I wrote it.”

Hot on the heels of her Grammy win, the “Poker Face” singer topped Billboard’s 2011 Money Makers list, with earnings of more than $20 million in 2010.

“Lady Gaga was inescapable in 2010. The pop singer, only a few years removed from her original hair color and shows at small downtown New York venues, so thoroughly dominated the last year that it seemed almost a foregone conclusion that she would top the Money Makers list.”

Lady Gaga's arrival at the 53rd Grammy Awards had the world buzzing quite early on Sunday evening (February 13). The songstress, who premiered her new song 'Born This Way' on Friday, hit the Grammys in a semi-see-through egg that seemed like something of an arty reference to that song's title.

Check out pictures of Lady Gaga's Grammy arrival here.

Outdoing the space-age Armani Privé getup she wore to last year's Grammys, Gaga was in the egg as she emerged from a truck and was carried by four men and one woman in yellow boxers and dresses to the carpet. The star managed to wave to MTV News' Sway and 'Jersey Shore' star Snooki, even though she did not stop to do interviews on the red carpet.

Her Twitter page gave a bit of insight into what Gaga might be up to on Sunday. 'This is Nicola, Haus of Gaga: Gaga is in incubation,' stylist Nicola Formichetti tweeted on the singer's page. 'Tonight's performance is in collaboration with Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler. X'

Formichetti also wrote about Gaga's big arrival on his own Twitter account. 'Grammys red carpet,' he tweeted. 'Lady gaga wears Mugler by nicola formichetti. Womb by hussein Chalayan. Gaga's pryers are in haus of gaga in collaboration with Mugler. My baby is been born.'

Lady Gaga is set to perform her new song live during the Grammy telecast. The singer is up for six awards on Sunday night, including Album of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Dance Recording and Best Short Form Music Video.

Lady Gaga's egg aside, there was a lot of glamour on the Grammy red carpet on Sunday night (February 13). Between the dazzling whites and animal prints, the stars turned up their fashion game for the big show in Los Angeles.

Check out photos of Lady Gaga's arrival and the rest of the Grammy red carpet.

Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch hit the carpet early in a white, partially sheer gypsy-esque gown by Givenchy, complete with swan detailing. Paramore leading lady Hayley Williams showed off her fire-engine red hair with a '60s silhouette that included a black sequined dress with hot-pink trim and black tights by Jeremy Scott.

Nicki Minaj did her own thing in a leopard print Givenchy dress with matching tights, shoes and even a beehive, Marie Antoinette-inspired wig with spots. 'I'm also wearing kick-ass attitude,' Minaj told MTV News hosts Snooki and Sway on the carpet. Perhaps stealing from Nicki Minaj's wardrobe cues, Swizz Beatz also wore all-black with a leopard jacket.

Katy Perry donned an iridescent Armani dress with angel wings, beads along the bust and cut-out detailing. Hubby Russell Brand and Katy's 90-year-old grandmother, Anne, were also wearing silver outfits designed by Armani. Perry's good pal Rihanna hit the carpet with her fiery hair looking shorter but still edgy in a white tulle gown with tiered ruffles by Jean Paul Gaultier that left little to the imagination.

It was all-black everything for some of the guys. Drake looked fancy in a black tuxedo with black shirt and black bow tie. Like Drake, Adam Lambert hit the carpet in black, wearing a low-cut black button-down with a black tuxedo that had leather details on the collar.

Justin Bieber looked white-hot in an all-white tuxedo with black bow tie and pocket square; he completed the look with white kicks. His gal pal Selena Gomez looked ultra-glam in a body-hugging J. Mendel lingerie-style silver gown. Gomez's fellow Disney star Miley Cyrus looked equally glittering (and newly blonde) in a skin-tight silver gown by Roberto Cavalli that she wore with lots of bangles. Kim Kardashian, who walked the carpet with brother Rob, opted for gold instead of silver in a low-cut, golden halter gown with a thigh-high slit by Kaufman Franco.

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony has not even officially begun, but with over 100 categories being recognized this year — from Best New Artist to Best Improvised Jazz Solo — there's simply not enough time to squeeze everything into the three-hour telecast.

That's why a slew of awards have already been handed out. Preshow winners include Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, the Black Keys and more.

Gaga, who is nominated in six categories, now has a Best Female Pop Vocal Performance win for "Bad Romance," after besting Beyoncé
("Halo") and Katy Perry ("Teenage Dream"). But the pop star, who became the talk of the red carpet when she showed up encased in a huge, translucent egg, also fell short in two early categories: Her duet with Beyoncé, "Telephone," lost out for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals to Herbie Hancock, Pink and friends' "Imagine," while Rihanna's "Only Girl (In the World)" nabbed Best Dance Recording over Gaga's "Dance in the Dark."

The win for Rihanna marks an auspicious return to the Grammys ahead of her upcoming performance with Drake and Eminem. Yet she, too, has already fallen short in a few categories: Jay-Z and Alicia Keys took home both Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for 'Empire State of Mind,' twice beating out RiRi and Em's 'Love the Way You Lie.'
Jay also picked up a win for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, along with Swizz Beatz, for 'On to the Next One.'

In the Rock categories, the Black Keys garnered a win for Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals ('Tighten Up'), prevailing over the likes of Arcade Fire ('Ready to Start') and Kings of Leon ('Radioactive').

In the world of pop, Bruno Mars came out on top for Male Pop Vocal Performance ('Just the Way You Are'), defeating Michael Jackson ('This Is It'), John Mayer ('Half of My Heart') and others.

Surprisingly sparse performance lets brand-new single shine on Grammy stage.

After arriving on the red carpet in an egg, incubating for her big performance, Lady Gaga hit the Grammy stage. She emerged from the egg in a high ponytail, gold bra top and long skirt, her makeup all black and gold. Her dancers wore similar yolk-colored tunics.

Check out pictures of Lady Gaga's Grammy arrival here.

The performance was surprisingly sparse for the typically over-the-top performer, allowing her brand-new single, 'Born This Way,' to shine.

Midway through the song, an organ emerged from the stage floor and Gaga put a surprisingly dark, horror-movie-like spin on the notes of the song and then belted out the rest of the bridge as her dancers surrounded her. The disco vibe of the tune kicked back in as her dancers ripped off their tunics and danced around her. Before leaving the stage, Gaga put on her trench and hat as the song faded out. Gaga and her dancers ended the performance with their paws up as an homage to all her Little Monsters watching from home.

It was Gaga's premiere live performance of 'Born This Way' after debuting the track Friday. It serves as the lead single from her May album release of the same name. The song was written and co-produced by Gaga; Fernando Garibay and DJ White Shadow also got co-production credits on the track.

'I wrote ['Born This Way'] in 10 f---ing minutes,' she explains in the upcoming issue of Vogue. 'And it is a completely magical message song. And after I wrote it, the gates just opened, and the songs kept coming. It was like an immaculate conception.'

Lady Gaga Reveals She Smokes Pot When Writing Music On '60 Minutes': "

'What artists do wrong is they lie and I don't lie, I'm not a liar,' self-proclaimed fame-master says on CBS special.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

During Anderson Cooper's sit-down with Lady Gaga on CBS' '60 Minutes,' the veteran anchor noted her refreshing candor, and in the segment the megastar demonstrated just how open she could be.

The '60 Minutes' cameras followed Gaga across the globe for a segment that aired Sunday night (February 13), and Mother Monster freely dished that while she no longer dabbles in cocaine, she does partake in some herbal refreshment when she opens her lyrics.

'I smoke a lot of pot when I write music. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it for '60 Minutes,' ' Gaga said matter-of-factly, adding that she knocks back whiskey as well when she writes. The 'Born This Way' singer, who maintained in the same interview that she had 'mastered the art of fame,' added that her upfront manner is central to her superstardom.

'What artists do wrong is they lie, and I don't lie. I'm not a liar,' she said.

And as we all know, she's not shy either, letting the '60 Minutes' crew tag along with her on a walk on the Thames river in London that gets crashed by paparazzi (she admitted she never gets used to the overamped photogs), showing up nearly nude to a sit-down in Milan ('I just didn't want to wear clothes today,' she explained. 'I just wanted eyeliner and my McQueen boots') and describing her rocky years as a high-school misfit.

"I felt disenfranchised by my school and the people at the school who would make fun of me ... and make me not feel cool," she said. Her new nom de stage — and the elaborately creative persona that accompanies it — liberated her from her confidence issues.

'I was able to leave such a massive amount of insecurities behind me by giving me that name,' she said. 'You have the freedom to pull that superstar out of yourself that you were born to be.'

As her fans can attest, she's got the superstar thing down; the segment showed her preaching self-empowering proclamations to crying, emotional fans in concert. She also batted away any notions that she doesn't helm her image personally, insisting she works studiously when it comes to creating her headline-making getups and chart-topping anthems.

'I'm a true academic when it comes to music and when it comes to my style,' she maintained. 'There's always some sort of a story or a concept that I'm telling.'

During the interview she rocks out to a few seconds of 'Born This Way,' tries to drop in on her old New York apartment and dishes about what she does and does not answer to in bed. Given the outrageousness of her antics and image, Cooper asked what the real Gaga is like. The pop sensation maintained there's no difference between who she is onstage and off.

"How much more real could I be?" she wondered, when recounting how photogs often ask for Gaga to be herself. "This is what I'm really like. This is the coffee I drink every day, this is the diamond I put in the cup when I get nervous," she added, suckling a fake diamond-like rock that she dropped in her cup — which is very likely a singular Gaga quirk.

Lady Gaga's Best Awards-Show Arrivals: From Kermit To The Egg: "

Gaga has always graced red carpets in completely over-the-top ways.

Lady Gaga arrives at the Grammy Awards on Sunday

Lady Gaga arrived at the Grammy Awards red carpet on Sunday night in an egg designed by powerhouse fashion houses Hussein Chalayan and House of Mugler. And we'd expect nothing less from Gaga, who has a long list of unusual and over-the-top awards-show entrances in her short career.

Check out photos of Lady Gaga's most memorable entrances.

Back in September, Gaga hit the white carpet of the 2010 VMAs in a gown designed by late friend Alexander McQueen and was joined by several servicemen and women who had been discharged from the U.S. Air Force and Army for being openly gay or bisexual. "These soldiers that are with me today have all been discharged from the Air Force or Army, or opted to leave on their own. ... Their stories are truly inspiring, and in my opinion — and as so many young people around the world believe — 'don't ask, don't tell' is wrong, it's sick, it's immoral," she explained of her choice to include them in her appearance.

Later in the night she appeared in the press room wearing the now-famous meat dress and pointed out its connection to her earlier companions. 'If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones,' Gaga explained. 'And I am not a piece of meat.'

At last year's Grammy Awards, Gaga was out-of-this world in a sparkly lavender and silver dress that looked like a planet with orbiting rings. What did the spacey outfit mean? 'The series of pieces Mr. Armani created for me are truly iconic; they represent not only beautiful fashion, but my spirit and essence as an artist,' she said. 'Mr. Armani is a fashion legend, and tonight would not have been the same without his touch, and his wonderful team.'

Gaga, who once wore a dress made of Kermit the Frogs, arrived at the 2009 VMAs with Kermit himself as her date for the big show. It was the first time that Gaga had created such a major spectacle for herself at an awards show. 'He's been a really good date,' Gaga joked to MTV News. 'It's our first date, but we've been eyeing each other for a while.'

And on Sunday night, though she didn't do interviews as her egg was being carried into the Staples Center, the art piece spoke for itself.

'She's born this way, so maybe she's being born again!' MTV News red-carpet correspondent Snooki noted after Gaga waved to her from inside her shell. Of course!

'You're gonna be surprised and wanna go crazy,' producer tells MTV News at Grammys.

Lady Gaga debuted her new single, the much anticipated 'Born This Way,' on Friday. It's an over-the-top old-school disco track about self-confidence and the power of loving yourself for who you are. Gaga performed the track at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, shortly after emerging from an egg.

Shortly before she took the stage, MTV News caught up with Lady Gaga's frequent producer, RedOne, who promised that if 'Born This Way' blew your socks off, then you really need to wait for the next single off her May album release.

'Next one! I'm not gonna tell you the title, but the next single, it's ... I don't want to say. It's gonna shock,' he teased on the red carpet. 'You're gonna be surprised and wanna go crazy.' (Vogue had reported that the next single would be called 'Judas,' but Perez Hilton later debunked the rumor.)

While that's where the Gaga talk began and ended, the super-producer was more forthcoming with details about working with rock icons U2 on their next album. 'I'm working with U2 and Bono and them. I'm a guitar player. I'm a musician,' he explained. 'A lot of people think RedOne is a synth guy, but I'm a guitar player, I'm a singer and all of that.'

RedOne said that while the band's next album will sound distinctly U2, he revealed that he and the guys are also putting a new-millennium spin on the age-old formula. 'I love producing. I love doing different styles, and with U2, it was like going back to when I was in a band, a rock band. The process is very special,' he said. 'It's a very unique process. It's futuristic, but it's still U2. U2 is U2.'
