Perez Hilton Reveals Birthday Wishes For Lady Gaga, Anti-Bullying: "

LOS ANGELES — Perez Hilton had two wishes for his birthday this year.

The 33-year-old blogger, who celebrated in grand Hollywood fashion on Saturday night at a Sunset Boulevard studio in Los Angeles, says that if he has his way, two things will come to pass: Lady Gaga's Born This Way will be a super hot-selling album and teen bullying will cease.

'My birthday wish for this year is for Lady Gaga's new album, Born This Way, to sell over 1.2 million copies the first week,' he said, pausing to give off a mock-sinister laugh. 'That would beat Taylor Swift's 1.1-something!'

That was actually the only kind-of-mean thing the notorious blogger said at his Blue Ball Birthday Bash on Saturday. And it could be the last. Perez said he has cleaned up his act, largely due to the teen bullying that's been well-documented over the past year.

'When there was that rash of gay teenagers committing suicide last year, and the bullying that is still going on, I was so moved. So moved that I changed how I operate on my website. When it came time to do my birthday, the idea came to me to raise money for charity and, of course, I wanted it to be a LBGT organization. And of course it was important for to work with one for young people,' he told MTV News.

So what does that kind of change mean? For starters, it means Perez may not have to duck celebrities anymore. He's been trying to stick to the facts, he said, and do less of the ad-libs like drawing on their paparazzi photographs. He also opened up about how he apologized to Jennifer Aniston for how he treated her over the years on his blog.

'The great thing about being the new and more positive Perez is that I, hopefully, will be having less awkward, uncomfortable, negative confrontations with people,' he said. 'But hey, I'm a big boy. I've done things in the past I'm not that proud of.'

What do you think of Perez's birthday wishes? Tell us in the comments!

'You are all the present I need in the world,' she tweets to fans upon turning 25. By Jocelyn Vena

On Monday (March 28), Lady Gaga reached another milestone in her life, turning 25. And it seems that all her pals didn't forget their Queen Bee on her big day. In fact, the singer even got some birthday love from ... herself.

'Drawing on table at restaurant. If I had to give it all back, but got to keep my fans, that'd be ok,' she wrote on Twitter. She included a photo of a drawing she made that reads 'Happy Birthday Me' with hearts all around it.

As a birthday treat, her fans trended the hash tag '#bornthisday' in honor of their Mother Monster. In another tweet, she thanked her fans for making her a trending topic on Twitter in honor of her big day. 'Thank you for trending #BornThisDay monsters! The sweetest tweet! You are all the present I need in the world. I'll be 25 in about 4 hrs!'

Her 'Born This Way' producer, Fernando Garibay, also tweeted some love for Gaga. 'Happy Birthday @ladygaga; cause you were Born This Day!!!!' Nicola Formichetti, Gaga's loyal stylist and Thierry Mugler creative director, teased the kind of fun the group was having in honor of Gaga. 'So much fun!!!' he wrote. 'What a party!! happy birth day my love, gaga!!! #mother monster.'

Fellow Gaga collaborator DJ White Shadow, who worked on the track 'Government Hooker,' shared a similar sentiment, adding, 'Fun birthday party tonight.'

Gaga pal Perez Hilton, who celebrated his birthday just days ago, sent some love to the pop star on his Twitter. 'Hey @ladygaga! Happy birthday, bitch!!!!' he wrote. 'BornThisDay LOVE YOU!!!! xoxo'

When MTV News caught up with Hilton at his birthday bash, he had this wish for his birthday: tons more success for Gaga. 'My birthday wish for this year is for Lady Gaga's new album, Born This Way, to sell over 1.2 million copies the first week,' he said. 'That would beat Taylor Swift's 1.1-something!'

In addition to all the birthday love from her inner circle, it was announced on Monday that Lady Gaga would be receiving the 'Always Next, Forever Now' Award at Logo's NewNowNext Awards, which air on the network on April 11. She receives the prize three years after she performed for the first time on television during the 2008 show.

Lady Gaga Gets Ethereal for Viva Glam MAC Video

Lady Gaga Gets Ethereal for Viva Glam MAC Video: "

'I wanted the campaign to feel a bit more timeless,' company's creative director explains.
By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga for MAC Viva Glam

Photo: Nick Knight

Lady Gaga's new short film for her work with MAC's Viva Glam line is an ethereal, ghostly affair that blends well with the pop star's current color scheme. The Nick Knight-directed clip features Gaga in shades of blush, nude and champagne almost floating alongside romantic images of martinis, flowers and perfume bottles. Airy house music plays as Gaga's flowing dress is blown about and she seduces the camera in various states of undress.

For photos of Gaga's Viva Gam line, click here.

This year's Viva Glam shades, which raise money for the MAC AIDS Fund, will be available for purchase next month. James Gager, SVP, Creative Director of MAC said that hooking up with Gaga for a second year (she teamed up with Cyndi Lauper last year) seemed like the most natural fit.

'She's an amazing fit for us in so many ways. I think the most important quality is that she is real and she speaks her mind. When MAC originally started, it was truly a place for all the misfits of the world, where they could feel comfortable and know that they wouldn't be criticized. We've always been all about welcoming everyone into our universe. Gaga is bringing that same spirit to the world. She spreads this message of 'Don't be afraid to be who you are, don't let people put you down,' and radiates this sense of empowerment. Look at how courageously she's been speaking out lately,' he said. 'She's so passionate, focused and articulate, and I think we are, too. Especially with Viva Glam, we really put ourselves out there and every cent goes to the cause.'

As for the sexy video, Gager explained that it was a joint effort, like so many of her projects. 'Working with Gaga is very much a partnership: It's a team effort and collaboration,' he said. 'The photographer Nick Knight, Gaga's stylist Nicola Formichetti and I wanted the campaign to feel a bit more timeless, but still very much her. Last year was all about a fun, feminine kind of sensibility, so I think if you compare that with what we've created this year, it's refreshing to see her in a way you wouldn't expect. We thought: 'Let's go with the idea of nude and the stripping away of what she's famous for and make her a little more elusive and evasive.' The tone is undeniably glamorous as well.'

Not only were the visuals for the campaign inspired by Gaga's aesthetic, but it seems this year's shades were also modified to fit Gaga's current look. "Jennifer Balbier [the company's SVP of product development] and I felt that after last year's shades — Gaga's fun pink and Cyndi's coral red — it was time to move in a new direction," he explained. "I think Gaga herself has moved into nude tones, and we didn't want to shoot something that was out of place. So she was actually part of the inspiration."

Last week, when Gaga appeared on 'Good Morning America' to talk about Viva Glam, she said her outfit was condom-inspired, in honor of the lipstick's AIDS-awareness mission.

'I want to get people started at home at a younger age with their children talking about HIV, talking about AIDS, talking about safe sex,' Gaga explained.

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Video Premieres Monday: "

The time is finally here, Little Monsters! Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' video will premiere on Monday.

The Nick Knight-directed video (which also had some directing assistance from Gaga, her Haus creative team and choreographer Laurieann Gibson) will make its TV debut at 5 p.m. ET on MTV's 'The Seven' and will hit the Web at 11 a.m. ET that same day when it premieres on Perez Hilton's website.

Gaga hinted at the premiere late Wednesday night, when she tweeted, 'You did it Monsters! Born This Way is #1 in 14 countries + were #1 again on Hot 100! Thank you for believing! Video Monday 28th 11am Est.'

Perez Hilton further reports that another cut of the video featuring an acoustic version of the single will be available on iTunes at a later time. All proceeds from that clip will go to charity.

When 'The Seven' caught up with Gibson recently, she spoke very highly of the video. 'I will tell you it is a life-changing experience,' the choreographer said. 'You can expect the highest level of execution in vocal music art and dance ... but you will be shocked.'

Gaga herself confirmed that sentiment in a recent radio interview, saying the video is about 'the birth of a new race within the race of humanity. The birth of a new race that doesn't bear any prejudices. I think the most important thing is that I continue to grow, and I knew when I put [out] 'BTW' it would be a transitional moment, because it doesn't sound like [my previous singles].'

Eminem Overtakes Lady Gaga As Facebook's Most 'Liked' Living Artist: "

He could soon surpass the late Michael Jackson as the site's overall most liked.
By James Montgomery

By his own admission, Eminem 'doesn't know how to work a computer,' but that hasn't stopped him from overtaking Lady Gaga as the most 'liked' living artist on Facebook.

Earlier this week, Em eclipsed Gaga to claim the title of Facebook's most-liked, as he currently counts more than 28,975,000 fans to LG's 28,926,000, according to Billboard. Eminem is currently averaging more than 500,000 Facebook 'likes' a day, and could soon surpass none other than Michael Jackson to become the site's overall most-liked artist, according to Famecount, a site that tallies the 'top social network stars worldwide.' The late King of Pop currently has more than 29,183,000 Facebook fans, giving him a slight edge over the hard-charging Em.

Of course, when it comes to overall social influence, Eminem still trails both Gaga and Justin Bieber in total YouTube views — though he recently became the third artist to crack the 1-billion-view mark — and when it comes to total Twitter followers, his 3 million are barely enough to crack Famecount's top 20 musicians: Gaga is #1, followed by the likes of Bieber, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Rihanna and, uh, Jessica Simpson.

Then again, all signs seem to point to Eminem's social media profile only increasing. He shows up in Dr. Dre's much-anticipated 'I Need a Doctor' video, which premiered on Thursday, and just last week, he grabbed headlines when on-set photos from his upcoming 'Space Bound' video — featuring porn star Sasha Grey — began making the rounds ... and just in case you were wondering, Grey has more than 110,000 Twitter followers of her own.

Lady Gaga Fans Expecting 'Born This Way' Video To Be 'Fabulous'

Lady Gaga Fans Expecting 'Born This Way' Video To Be 'Fabulous': "

'She outdoes herself each time,' one Gaga fan tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' music video premieres on Monday (February 28), and the star's dedicated legion of Little Monsters cannot wait to see what their Mother Monster has up her sleeve in the Nick Knight-directed music video.

When MTV News spoke to a small grouping of Gaga's loyal fans, they revealed what they think might make the final cut of the video, which was a collaboration between Knight, the singer's Haus of Gaga creative team and choreographer Laurieann Gibson.

A fan named Emily guessed that the clip might seek some inspiration from Gaga's stark, egg-y Grammy Awards spectacle earlier this month. 'Maybe kind of like her Grammy performance,' she pondered. 'I don't know. I have no idea. You never know what the hell she's gonna come up with.'

'She outdoes herself each time and each time she uses a different director,' Leslie Perkins said. 'And each time is beyond the last one. I'm expecting nothing less than fabulous.'

Cayley couldn't quite put her finger on what the video might look like. She explained, 'I don't know! I can only imagine!'

Mon Cherie and her pal, Pam Kitten, figure that something somewhat shocking will probably come of it all. "There's not much more of an egg, hon!" Mon Cherie joked. "She comes out of an elephant poop! I don't know! Nothing shocks me. Lady Gaga — whatever she do is fantastic."

Some of those same fans recently dished to MTV News about what the song 'Born This Way' means to them as Gaga ushers in a new phase of her career. 'Do what you want to do!' Mon Cherie previously noted. 'I mean, keep it real, keep it safe and keep it legal, but you got to do you, hon.'

Lisa explained that the tune 'means no matter what you are, who you are, who you want to be, you just can't help it, because you were born this way.'

Meanwhile, Gaga revealed during a recent visit to 'The Gayle King Show' that she also plans to put out a second 'Born This Way' video. The singer said that clip, which will accompany a stripped-down version of the song, 'will be released on iTunes.' She added that 'a portion of the money raised selling the song [will] go towards an anti-bully charity.'

Lady Gaga Confirms There Are Two 'Born This Way' Videos: "

Proceeds from 'stripped-down' clip and song will go to 'anti-bully charity,' she tells Gayle King.

Lady Gaga sat down with Oprah Winfrey's bestie, Gayle King, to discuss her forthcoming Nick Knight-directed videos for her chart-topping single 'Born This Way,' from her May album of the same name.

'I do have some exciting news about the new single. I've been so excited about [the fans'] reaction and seeing the fans be so excited during the show every time we play 'Born This Way,' it's been really amazing,' she told King. 'I've made two music videos for the song.'

Gaga then went on to confirm that portions of the proceeds from the sale of the 'stripped-down' version of the song, which will get its own video (further details about that clip were not known at press time), will go to charity. 'So there's one that's coming out on Monday,' she explained. 'But then I'm actually putting together another video, which is a more stripped-down version of the song that will be released on iTunes and also released as an audio file. A portion of the money raised selling the song is actually going to go towards an anti-bully charity.'

Mum has been the word on what the videos will actually be like. Though Gaga, in a recent radio interview, noted that the visual is about 'the birth of a new race within the race of humanity. The birth of a new race that doesn't bear any prejudices. I think the most important thing is that I continue to grow, and I knew when I put [out] 'BTW' it would be a transitional moment, because it doesn't sound like [my previous singles].'

Perez Hilton Expects 'Fierce Fashion' In Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Video: "

Gaga's gossip-blogger buddy also thinks the clip will feature 'determined dancing.'

No one is really sure what to expect from Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' video. The clip, directed by fashion photographer Nick Knight — with help from choreographer Laurieann Gibson, the Haus of Gaga, Nicola Formichetti and Mother Monster herself — makes its debut on Monday (February 28). With so little known about the video, and so much anticipation around its release, one of Gaga's closest confidants, Perez Hilton, was willing to go out on a limb and take a guess at what the sure-to-be-over-the-top clip will include.

'I expect fierce fashion and determined dancing in the 'Born This Way' video!' Perez told MTV News in an e-mail.

Perez has been teasing fans about all things 'Born This Way' for weeks now. When he spoke to us earlier this month about the star's Born This Way era, the gossip blogger admitted that it really will keep fans on the edge of their seats.

'I think just by reading the lyrics that 'Born This Way' is taking things in a new direction,' he explained. 'Whereas 'Bad Romance' and 'Just Dance' were great first-person [songs], 'Born This Way' is very much about the you and I, the collective us, the little monsters and the world.'

Lady Gaga's longtime collaborator, producer RedOne, recently echoed those sentiments, noting that for this album — and everything that goes along with it, including videos and music — Gaga is only going to top herself.

'She's growing all the time, from the day I met her,' RedOne said. 'Of course, she's an encyclopedia of music. She listened to all the Bruce Springsteens, all the legends, and she has music in her. But on her personal level, she's always growing and growing and growing and becoming bigger and bigger, and her vision's the same thing. She just needed this platform to put all her ideas and learning from what she's been doing [into one place], and she's doing her thing.'

With just hours until the premiere of her video for 'Born This Way,' Lady Gaga took to Twitter to post a still from the Nick Knight-directed clip on late Sunday, as the rest of the world was busy watching the Oscars.

The mostly black-and-white image is a close-up of the thigh area of a leather-clad person who is clenching one of his or her hands near their crotch. A little splash of red can be seen near the person's thumb, which has a long, sharp fingernail.

Several hours before teasing the video, which she co-directed alongside Knight, her Haus of Gaga creative team and choreographer Laurieann Gibson, Mother Monster tweeted a photo of herself wearing a denim top and skinny jeans, and sporting a brand-new do.

'Dyed my bangs black. Its my new monsterlook,' Gaga wrote in a message that accompanies the pic. 'Let the mitosis of the future begin. Off to meet Judas.' ('Judas' is the name of the next single off her May album release, Born This Way.)

And on Saturday, the pop star had this to say about the impending video premiere: 'After all the whiskey, lipstick, and late nights editing, the Born This Way video is DONE. Will be up to watch Monday 11am Est.'

The clip will hit the Web at 11 a.m. on Monday (February 28) on Perez Hilton's website, and then will make its TV debut at 5 p.m. ET that day on MTV's 'The Seven.'

In a sit-down with Gayle King last week, Gaga confirmed that a second 'Born This Way' video also will be released. 'I've been so excited about [the fans'] reaction and seeing the fans be so excited during the show every time we play 'Born This Way,' it's been really amazing,' she explained. 'So there's [the video] that's coming out on Monday. Lady Gaga Says 'Born This Way' Video Shows 'The Birth Of A New Race': "

Singer says the Nick Knight-directed clip was inspired by surrealist painters Salvador Dalí and Francis Bacon.

Lady Gaga is known to put a lot of thought into everything from her performance art to her over-the-top outfits and everything in between. Her brand-new video for 'Born This Way' is no exception. Shortly before its premiere on Monday (February 28), the pop titan called into BBC's Radio 1 to dish a few details about the seven-minute clip.

'It's the story about the birth of a new race,' the pop star told DJ Greg James. 'A race that bears no prejudice and a race thats primary sort of ambition in life is to inspire unity and togetherness.'

Gaga also said she was 'very proud' of the clip, admitting that her team collectively worked to breathe life into her concept. 'I had an absolutely sublime time working on it,' the singer said. 'I actually did it with a U.K. filmmaker and very famous fashion photographer Nick Knight. I worked on it with him. I wrote the script for the video and the concept, and between himself and Laurieann Gibson, my choreographer, we really brought the story to life.'

While many have pointed out that 'Born This Way' is reminiscent of Madonna's 1989 classic 'Express Yourself,' Gaga was the first to admit that the clip was inspired by a few other creative greats. "It's very inspired by, especially in the beginning, Salvador Dalí and Francis Bacon, the surrealist painters," she said.

Not only did Mother Monster stress the clip's symbolism and visuals, but the songstress revealed that she wanted to make a video that would really show what was going on in her head while writing the celebratory '90s-esque dance tune. 'The song is very meaningful to me, so I wanted to make something that would really show what was going on in my head when I wrote 'Born This Way.' '

Hours before the premiere, Gaga took to Twitter to share a mostly black-and-white video still from the anticipated clip, which depicts an evil Gaga pulling a gun out from her thigh area.

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Video Premieres: "

The seven-minute clip shows a Gaga ready to create new worlds to dominate.
By James Montgomery

She's already accomplished pretty much everything on this astral plane — you know, emerging from swimming pools while flanked by Great Danes, murdering her boyfriend, escaping from prison, offending the Catholic church. So, in her new video for 'Born This Way,' it sort of makes sense that Lady Gaga has taken her talents to an entirely new dimension: a 'multiverse' of starry space births and snarling specters, new life forms and centuries-old demons. And sparkly unicorns. You can't forget about them.

So, yes, 'Born This Way' (which premiered on Monday, February 28) is quite the spectacle. Part space odyssey, part Creationist yarn, it involves the formation of not just an entirely new universe, but an entirely new race of humanity, too. It sort of makes sense, it sort of doesn't, but that 100 percent doesn't really matter much. This is Gaga at her most fabulous, her most out-there, her most, well, Gaga.

Beginning with a long voiceover (the 'Manifesto of Mother Monster,' as Gaga puts it) that drops phrases like 'the mitosis of the future' and 'the eternal mother hovered in the multiverse' like they're practically weightless, 'Born This Way' stretches a tale of astral rebirth — which appears to be a central theme of the Born This Way album — over seven minutes, recalling everything from the early "Superman" films to the late Alexander McQueen's final collection, doing so effortlessly and oh-so-seriously, in the way we've come to expect from Gaga.

There is haute couture and barely there underwear, a guest appearance by the so-called 'Zombie Boy' who showed up in an earlier clip, a whole lot of oozing afterbirth, some fierce dance moves and even a bit of gunplay. The basic premise seems to be good vs. evil, but again, that's entirely up to your interpretation. Director Nick Knight fills each frame with shades of dark and light, coloring the voids of this new world with his fashion-photographer's eye. Gaga plays it straight, even when she's delivering a whitechocolatespaceegg (shout out to Liz Phair!) while hovering above planet Earth.

It's part fantasy, part hopeful reality. It's about the future and the past (especially at clip's end, when Gaga sports Madonna's near-trademarked tooth gap), but really, all of that pales in comparison to the sheer spectacle of the thing. And that sort of makes sense, because after thoroughly dominating this world, with 'Born This Way,' Lady Gaga seems content to create brand-new worlds to tower over. Welcome your new overlord.

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Video: A Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Video: A Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet: "

Gaga's latest is full of nods to fashion, film, fine art and the occasional West Texas weirdo.
By James Montgomery

Photo: Tom Briglia/ WireImage

By now, you've had a few hours to digest Lady Gaga's brand-new 'Born This Way' video, a starry, swirly, some would say gnarly clip that features plenty of astral afterbirth, a snarling man-zombie and exactly one shimmering unicorn.

So, yes, "BTW" is most definitely an eye-catching, high-concept thing — as Gaga told BBC's Radio 1, it's meant to showcase 'the birth of a new race,' which doesn't make it all that different from all of her videos, if you think about it.

And, much like her earlier work, 'BTW' is also loaded with blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments, carefully constructed odes to fashion, film, fine art and, uh, West Texas weirdos. So, in the same way we broke down her 'Telephone' and 'Alejandro' clips, we've decided to put 'Born This Way' under the microscope, watching (and rewatching) each frame to compile a pop-culture cheat sheet that's alphabetized and cross-referenced for your convenience. Believe us, this took way longer than you could imagine, but it was worth it. (Oh, and despite our best efforts, we're sure there's something we missed, which is why we need your help: Let us know what you spot in the comments below!)

And so, without further ado, here's our 'Born This Way' pop-culture cheat sheet:

Alexander McQueen: The late fashion designer has always been an influence on Gaga (she wore his famous "armadillo heels" in the "Bad Romance" video and one of his creations on the red carpet of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards), and in "Born This Way," her outfit at the beginning of the video — where she's hovering above Earth, giving birth to a starchild (or something) — seems directly influenced by the natural flourishes of McQueen's final collection, which featured feathers, mock scales and faux wings.

Denny Brewer: Deep-fried Texas musician/oddball who, along with his son, plays in the band Refried Ice Cream. In recent weeks, Brewer has risen to fame thanks to his recorded ramblings about alternate dimensions, phase-shifting, lizard people and pomegranates that serve as the through-line to Bright Eyes' The People's Key album. Much of what Gaga declares in her 'Manifesto of Mother Monster' is lifted from Brewer's playbook: a 'mitosis of the future,' a 'multiverse' and the constantly changing concepts of 'temporal' and 'eternal.'

H.R. Giger: Swiss-born surrealist painter and sculptor, perhaps best known for designing the terrifying, sexualized beasts in the 'Alien' franchise. After Gaga gives birth to her 'evil' spawn, he contorts his body in a way that, when coupled with sinewy fabrics, appears to be a direct nod to Giger's chilling work.

Janus: The two-faced Roman god of gates, doorways, beginnings, endings and time. At the very beginning of 'Born This Way,' Gaga's Mother Monster features two faces, and, given the whole 'rebirth' concept behind the video, that seems less than coincidental.

Madonna: By now, you're probably aware that, sonically, 'Born This Way' sounds a lot like Madonna's 'Express Yourself.' So, perhaps as a bit of a joke, Gaga closes 'BTW' by mimicking Madge's iconic gap between her two front teeth.

Michael Jackson: As she tries to assure her spot in the upper echelons of pop royalty, Gaga is obviously taking cues from the man who eternally sits on the throne: the late, great King of Pop. At the end of "Born This Way," she pays direct homage to the man, strutting down a dark alleyway, slightly glowing (à la his "Billie Jean" video). Earlier, she also wears a tuxedo, which could be a nod to the cover of MJ's Off the Wall album. Oh, and there's a very definite 'Captain EO' feel to the proceedings too.

'Metropolis': A 1927 expressionist film directed by the iconic Fritz Lang, which tells the tale of a dystopian, not-too-distant future in which society is divided into two classes. The opening scenes of 'BTW' definitely recall the film, especially the famous scene in which the heroine Maria is cloned by the villainous scientist Rotwang.

'Sin City': Gritty, black-and-white comic series from Frank Miller. Not only does the machine-gun-clutching Gaga remind us of every gun moll in the series, but at the end of the video, when she dances in stark white gloves with tassels, it seems like a direct homage to one of Sin City's most famous denizens: cowgirl stripper Nancy Callahan.

'Superman': Massive 1978 film directed by Richard Donner that tells the origin of one of DC Comics' most iconic characters. In Donner's version, the Man of Steel's home planet of Krypton is made almost entirely of shards of crystals, which also seems to have influenced the production design of 'Born This Way.'

Surrealism: Populist art movement begun in the 1920s, famous for its use of nonsequiturs and juxtapositions. Famed surrealist painters include Francis Bacon and Salvador Dalí, both of whom were name-checked by Gaga herself as being influences on the "Born This Way" clip.

'Vertigo': Masterful 1958 psychological thriller from Alfred Hitchcock. For reasons not really clear, it's equally masterful main theme, courtesy of Bernard Herrmann, is played over the opening scenes of 'Born This Way.'

Zombie Boy: Also known as Rick Genest, a model who made the rather, uh, unique decision to cover his entire face (and most of his body) in one large skeleton tattoo, which makes him look very much like, well, a zombie. In recent months, Genest has become a favorite of both Gaga and her stylist, Nicola Formichetti, appearing in a promo clip for the Born This Way album that premiered last month, and, of course, in the 'Born This Way' video too.

Fernando Garibay marvels to MTV News at how Gaga has combined 'the imagery, the dance' and the song's message.

On Monday (February 28), Lady Gaga released the video for 'Born This Way.' In the Nick Knight-directed clip, she explores a new life form that doesn't judge and certainly doesn't hate. Full of trippy alien-birth scenes, many costume changes and even an appearance by a unicorn, the video is Gaga's 'manifesto' on embracing people of all types.

The video — styled by Nicola Formichetti and choreographed by Laurieann Gibson — is essentially a visual representation of Gaga's dance anthem about celebrating our differences. The song was co-produced by Gaga, White Shadow and Fernando Garibay, and Garibay stopped by the MTV News offices on Monday afternoon to talk about the new clip.

'Well, I've seen pieces. We were privy to watching her make the video and stuff, and as we were watching her do the choreography and everything, we were just blown away, of course,' he said. 'It's amazing. Her talent, I mean, she's so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it's expressed with the song is truly amazing.'

Garibay was so 'blown away' he reiterated that he was still processing the dark, rainbow-colored clip. 'I'm still blown away by it. I saw it this morning and I was like, 'Wow.' '

Gaga seems to push the boundaries with each video, redefining what it means to be a pop star. And according to Garibay, that's just Gaga.

'I can't really speak for her but what I've noticed is, yeah, she's extremely conscious of these things,' he explained. 'You have to be for that ... level of artistic expression; you really have to know yourself and be confident of the message you're going to portray, and it's very genuine to her.'

Lady Gaga fans are still reveling in the eye candy that is her 'Born This Way' video, which dropped on Monday. But they're also eager to hear more songs off the May album release of the same name, and that includes her second single, 'Judas.'

Fernando Garibay, who co-produced many of the tracks on Born This Way, stopped by MTV News a few hours after the video debuted and dished what the second club banger from the album will sound like.

'Judas is produced by RedOne and Gaga, obviously, and it's a statement about, again I can't speak for her, but what I gather is it's about sometimes not choosing the right choice,' he teased, adding, 'But you can't deny that the choice is not a part of you and who you are.'

Like 'Born This Way,' 'Judas' will have fans dancing. And while 'Born This Way' harks back to the club tracks of the '90s, Garibay explained that 'Judas' is a more traditional Gaga tune.

' 'Judas' is a dance song, definitely,' he said. 'I think 'Judas' in the traditional RedOne/Gaga vein. It's great because it's a serious message, it's a little playful, but still serious, but still somehow you wind up dancing to it. That's what's great about her music. You know, like, my favorite songs of all time, dance songs, 'Billie Jean,' is a story you wouldn't think of singing but then you wind up dancing and singing the lyrics. I think that's the holy grail of music for me, which is dance.'

Gaga has commented on the track in radio interviews, sharing what inspired the song.

'It's about always falling in love with the wrong man over and over again,' she said recently. ' 'Judas' is a very, very dark song. It's rad.'

RedOne has also been keeping fans on their toes about the song, saying, 'It's gonna shock. You're gonna be surprised and wanna go crazy.'

NEW YORK -- Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' video premiered on Monday (February 28), and, as many of her videos tend to do, it created some confusion among viewers. MTV News asked fans in New York City's Times Square for their reactions.

'It looks like she's giving birth to something,' Angela Foreman suggested.

'She looks really slimy!' Amanda Russ squealed.

Another fan, Katie Doig, made the same observation as several of those we spoke to: 'She's so bizarre, but she's great!'

The video features Gaga taking on various identities, both 'good' and 'evil,' and is filled with dancing, kaleidoscopic imagery, protruding facial and shoulder horns and, of course, fashionably loud costumes and makeup.

'She looks strange,' Foreman said about one scene. 'Like a devil, very demonic.'

'I don't understand [but] it's typical from Lady Gaga,' Guillaume Lachaud said about the unusual looks, and then added, 'very beautiful, very sexy.'

Gaga also is seen performing intricate moves (choreographed by Laurieann Gibson) to the 'Born This Way' chorus, while dressed in a black bra and bikini; her body is especially exposed and toned in this clip.

'She's such a good dancer!' Doig exclaimed.

As for the tuxedo-wearing skeleton sequence, it reminded some fans of another music-video pop icon.

'She looks like Michael Jackson!' Lachaud smiled. 'Very 'Thriller,' ' Foreman added.

In spite of their baffled expressions, all agreed that the video held up against her previous work.

'I think she looks great,' Andrew Janda complimented. 'It's a nice video.'

'She's so out there,' Doig laughed. 'But it's so good, like, only Lady Gaga can do it.'

Lady Gaga To Preview New Track During Paris Fashion Show: "

It's a good week for little monsters. On Monday, Lady Gaga unveiled her sci-fi-inspired new video for 'Born This Way,' and on Wednesday, the pop star will debut a brand-new song during a Paris fashion show for Thierry Mugler's latest women's wear collection.

As she did in January, when she previewed a remix of a song called "Scheiße," Gaga will serve as the musical director of Mugler's runway show, which will be streamed live at 3 p.m. ET. The tune she premieres will likely be 'Judas,' the second single off the singer's highly anticipated Born This Way album.

This isn't the only sneak peek that the pop singer has in store for her legion of little monsters. During a radio interview with the U.K.'s Capital FM on Monday, the songstress revealed that she may perform a new song called 'Americano,' which also is set to appear on her forthcoming LP, during her final Monster Ball show, in Mexico City.

With all the buzz surrounding Gaga's new tracks, MTV News took the opportunity to sit down with Fernando Garibay, who co-produced many of the songs on Born This Way, including the single 'Judas.'

' 'Judas' is produced by RedOne and Gaga, obviously, and it's a statement about, again I can't speak for her, but what I gather is it's about sometimes not choosing the right choice,' he said. 'But you can't deny that the choice is not a part of you and who you are.'

Will you tune in to the Mugler live stream to hear Gaga's new song? Tell us in the comments.

Lady Gaga and Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti know a good thing when they see it. That's probably why they are always collaborating.

Formichetti is Gaga's stylist, and Gaga has been acting as musical director for Mugler's fashion shows. On Wednesday, Formichetti will debut his women's wear collection in Paris, and Gaga will debut a new song. She also revealed on Twitter she will be walking in the show.

'I'm making my debut as a runway model, walking in the MUGLER PARIS FASHIONSHOW 3/2,' she shared, revealing what song she was set to debut at the show. 'I directed the show music, previewing Government Hooker.' For those hoping to catch the appearance and the song, the show will stream live at 3 p.m. ET.

In January, Gaga previewed another one of her Born This Way tracks, "Scheiße," during Mugler's Paris Men's Fashion Week show.

'Nicola hummed it to me and tried singing it to me. It was hilarious,' Mariano Vivanco, who directed a short film that included the remix, told MTV News about the album version of the song. 'And described it to me in a really articulate way. He said, 'It's techno meets Whitney Houston, in a really good way.' '

As for this latest track, Gaga has already teased fans with what they will hear on the song. When Gaga called into Ryan Seacrest's radio show earlier this month, she described it is 'one of my favorites' and said it 'has more of a hip-hop beat.'

'We double-timed the beat. It's a super fast, really hard record, and the lyrics are really filthy,' she added. 'It's also empowering, but more in the direction of sexual female empowerment.'

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Video: Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet, Part II

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Video: Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet, Part II: "

Thanks to eagle-eyed MTV.com readers, we present our second in-depth look at Gaga's brand-new clip.
By James Montgomery

Lady Gaga

Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images

We asked, and you delivered. On Monday, with the premiere of Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' video, we compiled a pop-culture cheat sheet to highlight some of the clip's nods to film, fine art, fashion and more.

It was a pretty big task, so when we published that first story, we included a caveat: We were sure there were some references we missed, and we hoped you'd help point them out to us.

And, of course, you did. We received tons of tips from eagle-eyed Gaga fans, who analyzed each frame of 'Born This Way' and came back with a list of references we can't believe we missed (actually, some of them were so fleeting that we can't believe you noticed them). And thanks to that response — and in the interest of being thorough — we're publishing a second cheat sheet, made up entirely of contributions from MTV.com readers.

We'd like to think this is about as complete a list as you can get, but, if there's still something that slipped through the cracks, let us know in the comments below. So, without further ado, alphabetized and cross-referenced for your perusing pleasure, here is our 'Born This Way' pop-culture cheat sheet, part II:

Lotus Flowers: Not to be confused with the Radiohead single, these flowers hold immense significance in Eastern religion and philosophy, representing sexual purity, feminine grace and spiritual promise. Hindus closely associate the lotus with the divinities Lakshmi and Vishnu, and Buddhists believed that the flowers bloomed with each step of Gautama Buddha, who founded the religion. In 'Born This Way,' lotus flowers descend to Earth (spiraling, as one reader pointed out, 'in line with the Golden Ratio') immediately following the birth of the starchild.

Michelangelo's 'Last Judgment': Massive fresco inside the Sistine Chapel, it depicts the second coming of Christ and the apocalypse. Several readers noticed the similarities between the painting and the 'Born This Way' scene where the 'evil' child is born, as the souls of humans trapped below rise toward their Mother Monster for judgment.

Ovary: Female reproductive organ that — as one ultra-attentive Gaga fan pointed out — makes an appearance as a constellation at the 33-second mark of "Born This Way," just before Mother Monster begins to give birth.

'Rabbit Teeth': We caught hell from the Little Monsters for suggesting that, when Gaga donned a pair of gapped-front teeth at the conclusion of 'Born This Way,' she was doing so as an homage to Madonna. Instead, her fans said the costume was a nod to LG's own past, when she was called 'rabbit teeth' by her classmates. Now, of course, it's safe to say she's having the last laugh.

Sinéad O'Connor: Irish singer perhaps best known for her iconic 'Nothing Compares 2 U' video (and for ripping up a photo of the pope on 'Saturday Night Live'). As several readers pointed out, in the same scene where Gaga shows off the gap in her teeth, she also sheds a single tear, an apparent nod to Connor's '2 U' clip.

Third Eye: In Hindu texts, the third eye is one of the chakras that makes up a person's energy field (or 'etheric body') and serves as the gate to inner realms and higher consciousness. In New Age spirituality, the third eye usually symbolizes a state of enlightenment. Also associated with clairvoyance and out-of-body experiences. Most often, the third eye is located on the brow, though, in 'Born This Way,' Gaga's Mother Monster proudly displays hers on her chin.

Triangles: Basic geometric shape that also possesses a world of additional symbolism, from the spiritual (the Holy Trinity, the Star of David, etc.) to the sexual (a representation of the male and female sex organs) to the social (the pink triangle being used in the Holocaust to identify homosexual prisoners and later adapted by the LGBTQ movement to represent a 'safe' zone). All of those meanings can easily be applied to 'Born This Way' too.

Collaborators Laurieann Gibson and Fernando Garibay discuss new clip.

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' video is a dark sci-fi thriller about birthing a new race of non-judgmental people. Gaga's Little Monsters have been consuming the Nick Knight-directed, Laurieann Gibson and Haus co-created clip at epic proportions.

The visual spectacle is part fashion shoot, part alien horror flick, and all Gaga. MTV News rounded up some of Mother Monster's collaborators — her choreographer (Gibson) and Born This Way musical director Fernando Garibay — to talk about the meaning behind the visuals.

'This is the first statement and the opening statement of this Born This Way album,' Garibay explained.

'When she played it for me, it took me a while to find out the visual interpretation that I could give back to her. And so I woke up one night and I got it, and I said, 'I got it: We have to birth a new race,' ' Gibson recalled. 'From the gate, Gaga was like, 'I want Nick Knight for this video. I want a visual.' She was always birthing something visual in her head, and Nick Knight is just, well, he's prolific but he's so genius.'

The video, complete with its messages about acceptance and love, fit with the theme of the song. 'To write, particularly a dance record, I think dance records are the most hardest songs to write,' Garibay explained. 'But to write a statement within a hit record, I think is the holy grail, and I think she was able to do it this time.'

Gibson recalls having to work with Gaga on the dancing in the video. 'It took two days, and when Gaga was making the album, she wanted it to be in New York. We shot the video in Brooklyn over two days. We had to hide the location,' she said. 'To get her to be a better dancer, it's just a process of getting it out of her and getting her confident. So I just told the story of the record. There's lots of pushing and birthing. There's lots of punching the adversity. It's very symbolic.'

'We were just blown away, of course,' Garibay said of seeing the video be made from beginning to end. 'It's amazing. Her talent, I mean, she's so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it's expressed with the song is truly amazing ... It's of cultural relevance, and hopefully helps people that are an outcast, bullied. Hopefully makes people aware that it's OK to be yourself.'

Gibson admitted there was one main goal with this video: 'It was about pushing the bar of what a music video should be and can be,' she said. 'It's a different time; it's a different era; there are no limits. It is a viral message. I think that there's something in there for everyone, and that's what's so amazing about the video and so specific about the message.'

Fans have weighed in on Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' video, but how does Mother Monster herself feel about her latest entry into the world of music videos?

The video's creative director and Gaga's choreographer, Laurieann Gibson, stopped by MTV News on Monday, the same day the Nick Knight-directed clip dropped, and she opened up about Gaga's reaction to seeing the trippy 'Born This Way'.

'She loves it! She loves it so much and she's so happy,' Gibson told us. 'She loves it. She watches it all the time. Every time I walk in the dressing room [she says], 'Ah! Look!' She's very proud of it.'

Gibson shares that excitement and she said she's pleased that Gaga and her team are spreading their message of love and acceptance.

'I'm happy for her because she's so fearless,' Gibson explained. 'And she works so hard and, for me, those types of artists don't come around that often.'

Those sentiments were mirrored by one of Gaga's producers, Fernando Garibay, who worked on many of the songs on the upcoming Born This Way. Garibay told us he thinks the video reflects the song's feel-good message.

'Well, I've seen pieces. We were privy to watching her make the video and stuff, and as we were watching her do the choreography and everything, we were just blown away, of course,' he said. 'It's amazing. Her talent, I mean, she's so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it's expressed with the song is truly amazing. ... I'm still blown away by it. I saw it this morning and I was like, 'Wow.' '

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Creative Director Explains: Why NYC?: "

'This was the place that birthed her,' Laurieann Gibson tells MTV News of choosing location.
By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga knew exactly where she wanted to shoot her trippy music video for Born This Way. If she was going to properly tell the story about the birth of a new race that doesn't judge or hate, the New York native knew she had to take it home to the Big Apple.

'We took two days and when Gags was making the album, she wanted to be in New York,' Gaga's creative director, Laurieann Gibson, told MTV News on Monday. 'This was the place that we started. This was the place that birthed her. This was the place that birthed my dance. New York just has something so real about birthing something specific.'

Before cameras even started rolling, Gibson and Gags, as she calls her, decided there was only one place to work on the avant-garde, modern dance routine for the video.

'So I took her to Alvin Ailey [where I studied dance], and we rehearsed there because the choreography is really modern-based. It's, like, more technical than anything she's ever done,' she recalled. 'That was a great moment to engulf her in a real dance world and push her ability choreographically.

'And we shot the video in Brooklyn over two days and it was freezing cold. And we had to hide the location and we were quite successful except at the last day there was one paparazzi sneaking around,' she added. 'We had to build these boards and move because she was so passionate about it [not] getting out to her fans before it was ready.'

But planning for the video started long before the Haus of Gaga landed in New York City to shoot the Nick Knight-directed clip. Gibson recalled how she and Gaga birthed the idea. 'I've created, directed and choreographed for Lady Gaga since the beginning, so 'Born This Way,' this was musically such an amazing evolution and such a brilliant record, so when she played it for me, it took me a while to find out the visual interpretation that I could give back to her.

'I woke up one night and I got it and I said, 'I got it: We have to birth a new race,' ' she recalled. 'As genius as she is, she then begins to create all of these elements that make her Lady Gaga. When I saw the final edit I, of course, was loving some stuff and then I was like, 'But oh, here we go.' It was brilliant. Nick is amazing.'

Lady Gaga Releases Country Version Of 'Born This Way': "

New take on hit song, dubbed 'The Country Road Version,' features slide guitar, mandolin and harmonica.

You can take all those Madonna comparisons and throw them out the window of your Ford F-150 truck, because on Thursday night Lady Gaga released a new version of her global smash 'Born This Way' that featured a totally unexpected spin.

After tweeting to her Little Monsters that she was preparing to release 'Born This Way (The Country Road Version),' Mother Monster dropped the tune at midnight PT on Friday (March 25) via her Twitter account ... and it did not disappoint.

The new rendition of the hit opens with ominous, swirling guitars and then introduces a fuzzed-out slide guitar and harmonica wheeze, with all of the thumping disco beats replaced by restrained brush drumming and a more laid-back vibe. Once it kicks into the first chorus, the song continues to take its time, choogling along on live-sounding, laconic drumming and lots of soulful harmonica.

Just before the three-minute mark, Gaga mixes in some new lyrics, drawling, 'If I wanna make it country, baby, then it's OK, cuz I was born, I was born, I was born this way,' over picked mandolin. 'From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave,' she adds, as the song breaks into full-on country-rock mode reminiscent of late-period Bon Jovi in the final minute.

Meanwhile, the original, non-boot-scooting version of 'BTW' notched its sixth week in a row at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, which is what Gaga said prompted her to drop the surprise remake on her fans.

Earlier this week, Gaga revealed that she's almost done recording her Born This Way album, telling fans via Twitter, 'In Nebraska, finishing up record today ... I'm so proud of the album: I keep dancing+drinking: metal/techno rock journey of a woman on the run.'

Plans are now being worked up for the tour in support of Born This Way (due out May 23) and Gaga's first swing at directing, a collaboration with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, on the video for the album's upcoming second single, 'Judas.'

Lady Gaga's most recent single was not in fact 'born this way.' It was born as a classic Gaga radio smash-hit, yet in its nascent months has been transformed into 'The Country Road Version' you can hear below. The track was produced by Fernando Garibay, who also produced the original 'Born This Way.' Gaga is currently working on the video for the alternate rendition.

The new version of the tune is slowed down to a country lilt and saddled with some dirty harmonica, slide guitar, and honeyed harmonies. She also adds a couple new lyrics to suit the southern tinge: 'If I wanna make it country, baby, then it's OK, cuz I was born, I was born, I was born this way. From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave.' Nashville would be proud...probably.

While its visuals were no doubt memorable for fans of the 'Born This Way' video, Lady Gaga's funky fashions have also caught the eye of fashionistas everywhere. The video's creative director, Laurieann Gibson, credits Gaga's stylist, Nicola Formichetti, for embracing eye-catching couture for the Nick Knight-directed clip.

"When we found Nicola Formichetti — we found him when we were doing Much Music — before that we were just basically hustling and she was making a lot of the costumes, and we were grinding and America Apparel was our best friend," Gibson recalled. "And then we found Nicola and he just got it. So when we're on set, the Haus is such a collaboration, and Nicola is inspired and loves the passion of the dance. He is fashion, and him and Gaga together are magic. To see them push and pull, it's just a real process. It's like the Factory. It's very Warhol how we operate."

Formichetti blogged about the video's expansive fashion credits. In the opening sequence of the video, the star wears a head accessory by Alexis Bittar, a diamond neckpiece by Erickson Beamon with earrings by Pamela Love, and a stained-glass dress by Petra Storrs. Gaga also wears finger rings by Erickson Beamon and the technical chiffon was designed by Thierry Mugler.

During the birthing scene, co-star Raquel Zimmermann wears a bodysuit by Atsuko Kudo and a neckpiece by the Baroness. Gaga wears shoes by Natacha Marro. In the following scene, Zimmerman wears boots by Kobi Levi. And for Gaga's floating head scene, she wears Kudo and Levi, as well.

During the evil-Gaga gun scene, the singer dons knife shoes by Mugler, a dress by Sorcha O' Raghallaigh and gloves by Portolano.

When the song finally kicks in, Gaga wears skimpy lingerie that includes a bra by OMD, underwear by NYC Sex Trash by Stephanie Paterek, gloves by LaCrasia and customized half-sole shoes by Capezio. She completes the look with a special 'BTW' jacket by TomTom.

For the 'Born This Way' skeleton scene, both she and her skeleton lover, Rico, wear tuxedos by Mugler. For the orgy, the slime is courtesy of Bart Hess. For her Michael Jackson impression in the alley, Gaga wears a shirt and pants by Haus of Gaga, shoes by Natacha Marro, a Billykirk belt and LaCrasia gloves. As the video closes out, the unicorn horn is courtesy of Jennifer Behr.
